Effects of Exposure to Cellular Phones 950 MHZ Electromagnetic Fields on Progesterone, Cortisol and Glucose Level in Female Hamsters (Mesocricetus auratus). med./biol.
Auteurs: Seyednour R, Chekaniazar V
Aim:
To investigate the effects of exposure to cellular phones electromagnetic fields on progesterone, cortisol and glucose levels in female hamsters.
Background/further details:
72 adult, non-pregnant female golden hamsters were divided into three groups: control group, short-term exposure group (for 10 days), and long-term exposure group (for 60 days).
950 MHz
exposure duration: continuous for 3 h/day for 10 or 50/60 days
Exposed system:
animal (species/strain): golden hamster (Mesocricetus auratus)
whole body exposure
Methods
■endocrine changes: serum progesterone, cortisol and glucose levels (chemiluminescenceimmunoassay)
investigated material: blood samples
investigated organ system: endocrine system
time of investigation: after exposure
Main outcome of study
A statistically significant decrease in the progesterone level and a significant increase in the cortisol level was observed in both exposed groups (short-term and long-term) compared to the control group. The glucose level of the long-term exposed group was significantly increased in comparison to the short-term exposed group and the control group.
