By: Kumar RS, Sareesh NN, Nayak S, Mailankot M

Aim of study (according to author)
To study whether mobile phone exposure causes changes in behavior of rats in the elevated plus maze.
Background/further details:
The animals were divided into two groups of six rats each: control group and exposure group. Three of the exposed rats were tested one hour after the last exposure while the other three were tested 24 h after exposure. Controls were tested along with the 24 h post exposure group.

Endpoint
cognitive/behavioural endpoints: anxiety (behavior in elevated plus maze)

Exposure
General category: mobile phone, digital mobile phone, GSM

Field characteristics Parameters
900 - 1800 MHz
exposure duration: 50 missed calls of 1 min each /day for 4 weeks - with 15 s intervall between the calls

Exposed system:
animal (species/strain): rat/Wistar albino
whole body exposure

Methods
Endpoint/Measurement parameters/Methodology

Cognitive/behavioural endpoints:
Behavior in elevated plus maze (time spent in the open arms); number of defecation pellets

investigation on living organism

Time of investigation: after exposure

Main outcome of study (according to author)
The preliminary data indicated that the mobile phone exposure induced behavioral changes in rats, expressed as a deficit in open arm exploration in the elevated plus maze. Additionally, the number of defecation pellets of exposed animals was increased compared to control animals
