Social affairs committee calls for suggestions on electromagnetic radiation
Parliament’s social affairs permanent committee is inviting suggestions, comments or complaints from members of the public, even anonymously, about electromagnetic radiation caused by cellular telephony antennae.
The subject is being treated at a meeting next Tuesday at 6pm with representatives of the Health Ministry, the Malta Communications Authority, and the Malta Environment and Planning Authority, apart from representatives of GO, Vodafone and Melita.
It was discussed on 12 June after allegations of possible health damage caused by the antennae, and made by various persons.
At this Tuesday’s meeting the committee will be grilling the official representatives attending, who are expected to be ready with the information requested, relating to the scientific basis of the work on radiation emissions, what guidelines or legislation they are following and to ensure the minimum level of radiation.
A copy of the presentation made to the committee on 22 May is accessible on parliament’s website www.parlament.mt/socialaffairscommittee
The suggestions, complaints or comments may be sent by this Monday socialaffairs@parlament.mt or to the Clerk of the Social Affairs Permanent Committee, House of Representatives, The Palace, Valletta.
Those wishing to attend as observers should contact the committee’s clerk.
