Electrosensitivity: Wi-Fi remains switched off at night in Wangen
Some residents of the tranquil town of Wangen apparently have physical complaints from the public Wi-Fi hotspot. In order to counter the electrosensitivity of those affected, the city is now switching off its Wi-Fi overnight. And apparently the next city is already planning a very similar approach.

Since the beginning of March 2023, the southern German city of Wangen (Allgäu), directly on the border with Switzerland, has switched off the city's public Wi-Fi at night - for the sake of sleep. And soon Ravensburg will follow suit. The reason for this is a citizens' initiative based on research reports.

WLAN remains switched off overnight in Wangen
The town of Wangen, with its 27,000 inhabitants, is one of the tourist magnets in Baden-Württemberg with its picturesque old town and many restored centuries-old buildings. So it's no wonder that there are various Wi-Fi hotspots available for day trippers and holidaymakers, especially in the city centre. But that's over now. The Upper Swabian city has complied with a demand from the ''Alliance for Responsible Mobile Communications Germany'' and switched off the public Wi-Fi network overnight. Between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., people have to do without the freely accessible wireless Internet. The background is the electrosensitivity of the Wangen population, as a spokesman for the city administration expressed to colleagues from heise online.

However, the shutdown is not intended to affect the entire city. Rather, only the city center is affected. It is important for the Wangen administration to emphasize that, for example, other municipal facilities such as the local refugee home continue to have a Wi-Fi network around the clock. After all, the residents should in no way be prevented from getting in touch with their relatives at home. In addition, the city emphasizes that the use of the Wi-Fi hotspot at the now decided closure times is marginal anyway. Consequently, the temporary shutdown is likely to be beneficial not only for the physically affected persons. In addition, the city is likely to save a lot of electricity costs here.

Ravensburg also wants to take electrosensitivity into account
Word of Wangen's approach has apparently spread in the region. The city of Ravensburg, which is almost 30 km away, is now planning a very similar approach. Here, too, it is possible that the Wi-Fi will be switched off overnight. In Ravensburg, too, the symptoms of electrosensitive people are suspected to be the cause. So do we now have to prepare for such measures nationwide? You have to doubt that. After all, a court ruling would probably give greater weight to access to public Wi-Fi. basic-tutorials.com
