Mobile operator Tele2 Russia, in cooperation with Ericsson, has launched a pilot 5G network on Tverskaya Street in the downtown Moscow. Outdoor coverage of the 5G network has become available on the 28 GHz band.
The pilot area covers the Tverskaya Street from the Kremlin to the Sadovaya Ring. The network works in the NSA (Non-standalone) regime. This enables Tele2 to launch 5G services on the LTE network at the initial stage.
Pilot 5G areas are being deployed in the major cities in the country under the federal programme Digital Economy. The networks are planned to launch in five cities in 2022 and in 15 cities in 2024.
Tele2 Russia earlier concluded a cooperation agreement on ICT development with the Moscow city municipality.
