As well as gaining insight into how these companies operate, the new Prime Minister's first working visit is part of a Dutch government's initiative to promote innovation and lift the Netherlands into the top 5 of knowledge economies internationally. ''The future is in innovation. No matter how well the Netherlands are doing in terms of knowledge and product development, we are still struggling to market innovations successfully. The trick is to strengthen the ties between expertise, skill and cash. ''To help achieve this goal, the Dutch Government has announced plans to increase the budget for the so-called ‘Wet Bevordering Speur- en Ontwikkelingswerk' (Promotion of Research and Development Work Act) by €170 million in 2011. This government grant arrangement covers part of the employee costs inherent to new innovation.
