Dutch Prime Minister Rutte visits SiTel as part of “innovation tour”

Prime Minister Mark Rutte pays working visit as part of a Netherlands innovation drive

s-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands, 23 November 2010 - On Wednesday, November 24, 2010, Netherlands Prime Minister Mark Rutte will visit SiTel Semiconductor's headquarters in ‘s-Hertogenbosch on a tour of innovative companies in the Netherlands. As well as gaining insight into how these companies operate, the new Prime Minister's first working visit is part of a Dutch government's initiative to promote innovation and lift the Netherlands into the top 5 of knowledge economies internationally.

''As a specialist supplier in wireless voice and data communications, in particular DECT related applications, continued innovation is key to SiTel's success,'' commented Asmund Tielens, CEO of SiTel Semiconductors. ''We have already benefited from grants the Dutch government provides for innovation, for example with the development of a dedicated standard for wireless sensor networks. It is this type of support that will help drive technology developments in the Netherlands.

''Prime Minister Rutte recently stressed the importance of being a leader in today's knowledge economy in a speech to the Midden- en Kleinbedrijf congress (Small and Medium Enterprise employers' organization). ''The future is in innovation. No matter how well the Netherlands are doing in terms of knowledge and product development, we are still struggling to market innovations successfully. The trick is to strengthen the ties between expertise, skill and cash.

''To help achieve this goal, the Dutch Government has announced plans to increase the budget for the so-called ‘Wet Bevordering Speur- en Ontwikkelingswerk' (Promotion of Research and Development Work Act) by €170 million in 2011. This government grant arrangement covers part of the employee costs inherent to new innovation.
